Ruth Hazel Swygard, 93, died Saturday, January 27, 1990 at the Sarasota Pavillion Nursing Home in Sarasota, Florida.
She was born October 5, 1896 in Mediapolis, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Deets Vannice.
She married Karl Swaygard on August 29, 1915. He died April 29, 1963 in Birmingham, Iowa. Ruth was a resident of Birmingham for 40 years before she moved to Sarasota in 1985 to make her home with her daughter.
Survivors are her daughter, Nancy Keemer of Tucson, Arizona and Jerry Swygard of Fairfield, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
The last survivor of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Raymond, Paul and Max. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by four children; Geraldine, Max Eugene, Gordon and William.
She was a Gold Star mother, son Gordon's plane was shot down over Hungary during World War II.
Burial of cremains at a later date will be in Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Birmingham Public Library.
