Sam Baker

WASHINGTON, Iowa - Sam Baker, 91, died Monday, Jan. 22, 1990, at his Washington home.

The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jones Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Douglas Reichendack officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation is open with the family at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Baker was born Oct. 28, 1898, in Washington County, the son of Lewis and Laura Jacobs Baker. He was raised and educated in Washington County and attended Pleasant Ridge School. He married Fern May on Aug. 28, 1918, in Washington. She died in 1977.

He was a member of the Odd fellows Lodge and the senior citizen YMCA. He farmed near Richland for 27 years and raised Angus cattle. He was director of the SE Angus Association. He retired in 1971 to Washington.

Survivors include three sons, Ernest of Bloomfield, Everett of Richland and Donald of Farson; three daughters, Bessie Schlatter of Wayland, Ruth Zieglowski of Washington, and Juanita Dickinson of Birmingham; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
