J. Gibson Brown

J. Gibson Brown, Chicago, Ill., was born June 21, 1908, in Keosauqua and died June 28, 1989, at St. James Hospital Medical Center.

He lived in Keosauqua for many years and lived 55 years in Chicago.

Mr. Brown was employed 30 years with the United States Steel Supply Company and retired in 1968. He was a 49-year member of the United Church of Hyde Park and for years served as head usher, elder, deacon and trustee of the church. He also served as chairman of the Hyde Park YMCA board.

Survivors include his wife, Lois B. Brown and two sons, James B. of Chicago and Philip H. of Homewood, Ill.

He also is survived by two grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh B. Brown in 1959 and J. Merritt Brown, 1986.

Services were held Sunday, July 2, 1989, at the Hirsch's West End Chapel, Chicago Heights, Ill., with the Rev. James Clark Child, of the United Church of Hyde Park, officiating. Burial was Monday, July 3, at the Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa.
