George King

Mr. George Marion (Pat) King, 87, 708 Broadway, Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1987, at 3:30 a.m. at the Burlington Medical Center.

He was born May 29, 1900 at Hillsboro, the son of Charles and Nellie Ranson King. On May 12, 1921, at Mt. Pleasant, he was married to Gladys White. They lived in Fairfield from 1947, moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1978.

He was a retired electrician who worked at the now defunct Parsons College.

Surviving are his wife; 11 children, Rex, Cantril; Mrs. Richard (Estyl) Breazeale, Iowa City; Charles, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. William (Katherine) Ross, Hillsboro; William (Bill), Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Robert (Joanne) Dunston, Mt. Pleasant; Robert, Melton; James, Muscatine; Merlin, Boulder, Colo.; Mrs. Tom (Linda) Cameron, Burlington; and Patti Klett, Mt. Pleasant; four sisters, Mrs. Harley (Ellen) Smutz, Fairfield, Mrs. Velda White, Washington; Mrs. Eliza Kiger, Mt. Pleasant; and Mrs. Oliver (Bernice) Burkey, Mt. Pleasant; 41 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn; three brothers, John M., Frances and Harry.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. from the Salem Friends Church, with the Rev. Hugh Shiveley and the Rev. Dwight Engel officiating. Interment will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Sunday.

A memorial to Quakerdale has been established.
