Donald R. "Jim" Harness

Donald R. "Jim" Harness, son of Joseph and Margaret Laughlin Harness, was born May 14, 1919 at Webster, Iowa and died the evening of Saturday, January 24, 1987 at his home, 751 Riverside Lane, Ottumwa, at the age of 67.

He grew up in Ottumwa, graduated from Ottumwa High School, and was a conductor on the Rock Island Railroad, retiring with 41 years of service. He attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Ottumwa and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. From 1965 until moving back to Ottumwa in 1985 he lived on a farm east of Selma.

He married Faye Beebout Sisco January 22, 1970 at Kirksville, Mo. Survivors include his wife, two sons, Donald Jr. of Eldon and Mark of Longview, Texas, a daughter, Kris Heise, Ocala, Florida, two stepsons, David Sisco, Ottumwa and James Will, West Union, five grandchildren, a step-grandson, five brothers, Bill, Fred and Bob, all of Ottumwa, Ronald of Moline, Ill. and Clarence of Garland, Texas, two sisters, Betty Grace and Evelyn Lanning, both of Ottumwa, other relatives and friends.

The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, 1987 at 2 p.m. in Trinity Nazarene Church, 2208 North Court, Ottumwa, with Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Memorials to Hospice of Wapello County or Eldon Rescue Unit may be sent in care of Donald Harness, Jr., Box 354 Eldon, Iowa 52554. Arrangements were handled by Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds.
