Willa F. Barker

Willa F. Barker, daughter of Hugh B. and Anna Saunderson Barker was born December 4, 1899 near Keosauqua and departed this life the evening of Monday, February 9, 1987 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 87.

She lived many years in Selma, and the past nine years in Douds. She had been a cook at the Selma school, assistant postmaster at Selma, and did babysitting.

Willa was a member of the Selma United Methodist Church, Douds United Methodist Women and Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of Eastern Star at Douds. She was treasurer of the Selma Community Club for a number of years and had been a Rebekah.

Surviving are three sisters, Hazel Roush and Orpha Plowman, both of Keosauqua, and Clair Roush, Florissant, Missouri; nieces and nephews.

Six brothers, Mernice, Sands, Hallie, Walter, Brooks and Stanley Barker and an infant sister, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 12, 1987 at 1 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, with Rev. Stephen Conte, pastor, officiating. Interment was in in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua. Memorials were established for Selma United Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church, Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, was in charge of arrangements.
