Robert Black Sr.

Robert Paul Black, Sr., 57, 225 N. McLean, died at 5 p.m. March 18, 1987, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born Nov. 27, 1929, in Fairfield to Harry and Laura Hummell Black. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post 775, Veterans of Foreign Wars, twice past commander; Order of the Cooties; National Home; past district commander Post 4 VFW; Eagles; social member of O.B. Nelson Post 3; and Local 74 UAW.

He was employed 36 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works. He married Idella Baxter April 4, 1964, in Ottumwa.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert Black Jr. of Milton and Michael Baxter of Ottumwa; four daughters, Laura Laumeyer and Susan Cline of Ottumwa, Myra Martin of Bloomfield and Marilyn Naill of Milton; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Harry Black of Des Moines; and two sisters, Ruth Keller of Cantril and Nellie McAllister of Elvaston, Ill.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Robertson-Jay Funeral Home, the Rev. A.D. Pringle of Ottumwa Baptist Temple officiating.

Burial will be at Shaul Cemetery, wit(h) VFW graveside services and funeral rites.

Memorials may be made to VFW Firing Squad.

Family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Pallbearers will be Ward Ransford, Melvin Stonebraker, Joe Lord, Sam Howk, Bob Hem and Kenny Campbell.
