Shirley B. Seip

Shirley Blair Seip, daughter of Ross and Mildred Blair, was born March 28, 1921 at Bonaparte and died the afternoon of Tuesday, March 3, 1987 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 65.

She grew up in the Mt. Sterling community, graduated from Keosauqua High School and attended Parsons College, Fairfield, and American Institute of Commerce, Davenport.

Shirley served as Van Buren County Recorder for 30 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1986. She had previously been a secretary in the McGrath law office.

She was a member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Chapter I, PEO, the Delphian Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and was active in the Republican party and Republican Women's Organization.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Michael Seip and his wife, Susan of Scottsdale, Ariz., two daughters, Patricia Beemer and her husband, Raymond of Iowa City and Roxanna Cooke and her husband, Geoffrey of Bloomington, Minn., seven grandchidlren(err), Andria, Eric, Saraden, and Sierra Seip, Christopher and Betsy Beemer, and Lauren Cooke, a brother, Miller Blair and his wife, Beverly of Keosauqua, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 7, 1987 at 11 a.m. in the Keosauqua United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Morrison officiating. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.

Memorials were established for the Van Buren County Ambulance Service and the Keosauqua Public Library.
