John W. Jones

John W. Jones, son of S. Asa and Effie Lee Jones, was born March 1, 1904 near Birmingham and died the evening of Thursday, April 23, 1987 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 83. John was a lineman for Iowa Electric Co. for a number of years and later farmed at Kilbourn, retiring to Keosauqua in 1986.

He married Eva Rudolph. He later married Ruth Gilbert Barker on Nov. 21, 1960 in Birmingham.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, a son, Harold Jones, Quinlan, Texas, a daughter, Verlee Heberlee, Waterville, Minn., and three stepsons, Norman and Duane Barker of Keosauqua and Don Barker in Florida. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, a brother, J.R. "Sam" Jones of Birmingham, three sisters, Minnie Williams, Birmingham, Mary Barnett, Cantril and Edna Wright, Maitland, Fla., a half sister, Nell Stark, West Des Moines, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, George in infancy, brothers William and Stanley and a sister, Lucinda Rinabarger.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 27, 1987 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Interment was in Kilbourne Cemetery. A memorial was established.
