Gordon L. Shipp

Gordon L. Shipp, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Farmington, died of an apparent heart attack March 26, 1987, in Englewood, Colorado.

He was born in Horton, Iowa on August 26, 1930. After graduation from Waverly High School, Gordon went to Northwestern Schools of Minneapolis. He received further training at Baptist Bible College of Pennsylvania. In 1978, he was granted an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Denver Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Shipp's first pastorate was in Farmington, where he served from 195 to 1961. He then moved to First Baptist Church in Eldora where he pastored for seven years.

Gordon Shipp left Iowa to shepherd the flock of Belden Regular Baptist Church of Chicago, Illinois. He was there seven years before moving to Michigan in 1975 to pastor South Baptist Church of Flint. Dr. Shipp was appointed as president of Faith Baptist Bible College and Seminary on October 31, 1980. He served faithfully on many boards and committees.

His personal testimony was, "I count it the greatest privilege in the world to be engaged in the work of the Lord."

Survivors include his wife, Norma; two daughters, Deborah Shipp of Racine, Wisconsin and Cynthia Shipp of Ankeny; a son, Steven Shipp of Flint, Michigan; and two grandchildren.
