Philip D. Grief

Phillip D. Grief, son of Herbert and Murline Walters Grief, was born June 16, 1939 in Paducah, Ky. and died the morning of Wednesday, June 3, 1987 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, Iowa, at the age of 47.

He graduated from Paducah and from Murray State University, Murray, Ky. He taught school four years in Van Buren Community High School, Keosauqua, retiring for reasons of health in 1985. Early in his tenure at Van Buren he was voted the outstanding young educator in the state of Iowa.

He was a member of Margaret Hank Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Paducah.

Surviving are a daughter, Sara Ann Grief of Fairfield, Iowa, his father of Paducah, a twin sister, Phillis Grief Wagner and her her husband, Dr. Cecil Wagner of Paducah, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lee Grief, Kevil, Ky., two nephews, David Dale Wagner, other relatives and friends. His mother preceded him in death in1986.

A service was held at 8 :.M. Thursday, June 4, 1987 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Don Morrison officiating. The body was taken on Friday to Lindsey Funeral Home, Paducah for visitation and funeral services at 2 P.M. Sunday, June 7 in Mr. Grief's church, with Rev. Eddie Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Ballard County, Ky. with Rev. David E. Wagner officiating. Memorials were established to the Keosauqua United Methodist church in Iowa and to the Margaret Hank Memorial Cumberland Church in Kentucky.
