Hugh H. Beggs

Hugh Harlan Beggs, Jacksonville, Ill. died Wednesday evening, June 24, at his home.

He was born Dec. 3, 1904 at Keosauqua, Iowa, a son of A.R. and Elma Brown Beggs.

He married Gertrude Holmes Aug. 1, 1934 in Marshall County and she survives with a son, Thomas A. of Springfield, Va., and a daughter, Mrs. Pinckney (Susan) Hall of Menomonie, Wis., and four grandchildren. He was preceded by a brother and a sister.

He was professor of music at MacMurray College from 1931 to 1972. He received his bachelor's degree from Drake University, master's from Eastman School of Music and did graduate work in London and Paris.

He was a member of the Congregational Church. He was active in faculty recitals at the college and accompanied other faculty soloists during his career and after retirement.

Following cremation a memorial service was held Sunday, June 28, 1987 at 2:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church. Memorials suggested to the Hugh Beggs Memorial Scholarship Fund at MacMurray College or the Congregational Church. Cody and Son Memorial Home in Chicago was in charge of arrangements.

He graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1923.
