Grace E. Walker

Grace Walker, 72, of Sunnyslope Care Center and formerly of 1305 Locust died at 1:15 p.m. Aug. 3, 1987.

She was born Sept. 10, 1914, in Bonaparte to Jesse Marvin and Bertha Byard Gardner. She was employed for 25 years at Champion Bowl as a bowling instructor and administration. She was a charter member of Elks Ladies, A lifetime member of Rainbow Lodge for Girls, No. 16, American Legion Auxiliary, was active in Scouts and Campfire Girls, was a member of Ottumwa Women's Bowling Association and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1982.

She was involved in the junior bowling league from 1960-1980, had served three terms as president of the Ottumwa Womens' Bowling Association and had served on the board since 1969.

She married Merlin A. Walker on May 20, 1934, in Bonaparte. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Davis of Story, Wyo.; two sons, John of Ottumwa and Dennis of Carter Lake; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Gardner of Burlingame, Calif.

The service was held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 1987 in the Chapel of The Cross of Shrine of Memories Funeral Home, the Rev. David McCann of East End Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to East End Presbyterian Church, the Arthritis Foundation or the American Cancer Society in care of Florence DeBuhr, 3 Carter Court Lane, Ottumwa.
