Dr. Miller Clark Derr, popular 71-year-old Miatland, Missouri physician and surgeon, died early Wednesday morning, September 24, 1986 in Bishop Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. He had been critically ill for some time and had been hospitalized for several days.

Dr. Derr graduated from Bonaparte, Iowa High School in 1932. He graduated from Kirskville College of Osteopathy and Surgery, Kirksville, Missouri in 1941. Dr. Derr served his residency in Kirksville, and established his practice in Maitland, Missouri in July, 1924. He served as a trustee on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Osteopathic Association and was designated an honorary life member of the Association on April 25 of this years. He was a past president of the Northwest Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons and was currently serving on the Board of Directors of Northwest Health Services.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Maitland, where he served as an elder and was a former chairman of the church board. He served on the Board of Education of the Maitland school, was on Maitland's city council and the town's mayor for a lengthy period of time, was past president of the Maitland Development Corporation and Maitland Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Derr was born December 1, 1914 in Bonaparte, Iowa, the son of Clark and Lottie Miller Derr, who are both deceased.

On November 20, 1942, Dr. Derr was married to Lois Kneale of Graham, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, M.C. Derr, II of Maitland, Michael Derr of Rushville, Illinois and Gregory Derr of Burlington Junction, Missouri; a daughter Denise Cotter of St. Joseph, Missouri; a sister, Mary Frances Derr, Tiffany Heights Nursing Home, Mound City, Missouri, and eight grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, September 26 at the Christian Church in Maitland with buriel(sp) in the Maitland Cemetery.
