DIRK W. MILLER
Dirk W. Miller, son of George and Lucia Gaas Miller was born June 5, 1908, near Bonaparte, Ia. He grew to manhood near his birthplace and attended rural grade school. He graduated from Bonaparte High School with the class of 1925.
On June 6, 1938, he married Jean Nelson at Corning, Iowa. They are the parents of two children, Michael and Jane.
Soon after graduating from Iowa State University the couple moved to Jefferson, where Mr. Miller taught vocational agriculture until his retirement from the Jefferson Community School system on May, 1974.
During W. W. II, Dirk served his country as an officer in the United States Navy.
At the time of his death, he was teaching vocational agriculture at Carroll and Kuemper High School in Carroll.
Dirk was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson, where he taught Sunday School for ten years and was an Elder of the church. He was also a member of Jefferson Rotary Club and Past President of the Iowa Vocational Teachers
Association.Mr. Miller died Friday, October 4, 1974, in Omaha, Nebr. Services were October 8, burial was in the Jefferson Cemetery. He is survided [sic] by his wife, Jean, his son, Michael and daughter-in-law Rita of Anchorage, Alaska, his daughter, Jane of Ann Arbor, Michigan, a granddaughter, Heather Miller, one brother, Louis Miller of Davenport, one sister, Mrs. Edith Monger of Omaha, an uncle, Edward S. Gaas, Prairie City, and other relatives and friends.
