Jessie Pearl Smith, 94, of Nelson Nursing Home, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 1995, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Pittsburg Cemetery near Keosauqua. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Smith was born July 31, 1901, in San Jose, Ill., the daughter of James and Stella Poucher Groves. On Oct. 18, 1922, she married Nova Dale Smith. He died Oct. 7, 1989. She had lived in the Fairfield community for 47 years and before that in Keosauqua.

She was a telephone operator for 16 years with United Telephone Co. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Independent Telephone Pioneer Association, Order of Eastern Star, and Pythian Sisters.

Surviving are a son, Wayne E. of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A son, James P., and a sister, Mabel Loomis, preceded her in death.
