Fred Salters rites Wednesday

DOUDS - Fred C. Salters, 73, of Ft. Madison, formerly of Douds, died at 11:17 p.m. Saturday in the emergency room of Ft. Madison Community Hospital following a heart attack.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Burial will be in Leando cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials to the Leando Cemetery may be left at the funeral home.

Salters was born March 18, 1914 at Douds, the son of John and Lillie Carter Salter. He was a retired Rock Island Railroad engineer. Formerly, he did plumbing and electrical work in the Douds-Eldon area. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He married LaVeta Hufford Dec. 5, 1935, at Keosauqua. They lived in Douds and Eldon, moving to Argyle in 1980 and to Ft. Madison in 1983.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Marjorie Whilhelm of Argyle, Judith Davis of Ft. Madison; two grandchildren; three sisters, Lila Kaloff and Florence Hartsell, both of Douds, Ruth Hartsell of Westland, Mich.; two brothers, Theodore of Vail, Iowa, and Carl of Port Charlotte, Fla. Three brothers, a half-brother and a granddaughter preceded him in death.
