Lulu Beggs

Lulu M. Beggs, daughter of John and Martha Van Hyning Hughes, was born November 8, 1897 in Scotland County, Missouri and died Saturday, November 1, 1986 at her home in Keosauqua at the age of 88.

She was married to Otto D. Beggs January 19, 1916. Mr. Beggs preceded her in death January 18, 1969. Also preceding her in death were her parents, an infant grandson, two sisters, Lola Austin and Lela Holmes and five brothers, Russell, Roy, Rupert, Raymond and Robert Hughes.

Survivors include two sons, Dale O. Beggs, Fairfield and Francis J. Beggs, and his wife, Donna, of Vinton, two grandsons, Michael Beggs, San Antonio, Texas and Bradley Beggs, Fort Wayne, Indiana; three granddaughters, Dolores Vandenberg, Hudson, Donna Washburn, Kahoka, Missouri, and Theresa Juhl, Vinton, ten great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Lenora Peacock, Keosauqua and Louise Wolf, Ft. Madison; three brothers, Roscoe Hughes, Keosauqua, Reginald Hughes, Los Gatos, California, and Rex Hughes, Custer, South Dakota, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Beggs was a telephone operator in Keosauqua for many years and also in Burlington before her retirement. She was a member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 4, 1986 at 11 A.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Don Morrison officiating. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery. Memorials were established for her church and Purdom Cemetery.
