RUSSELL E. RIPPEY

Russell E. Rippey, son of Joseph and Zoa Weeks Rippey, was born March 20, 1903 in Madison County, Iowa and died Monday, February 17, 1986 at Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield, at the age of 82.

He married Leah Hopkins, April 22, 1924 near Winterset.

They lived 40 years in Milton, where they operated a grocery store and locker plant. He was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Milton Lions Club and an organizer and long-time manager of the Milton Little League baseball program. In retirement he refinished antique furniture. The Rippeys moved to Fairfield to be near family in December, 1985.

Surviving are his wife, Len; three sons, James of Fairfield, Willard of Bakersfield, California, and Steven of Des Moines. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a brother, Olin, Leon, Iowa, two sisters, Faith Boyd of Des Moines and Grace Woolery of Lake Havasue City, Arizona. His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 19, 1986 at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Charles Butler and Rev. Marilyn Butler officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. Memorials were established for the Milton United Methodist Church and the Milton Christian Church.
