M. Chacey dies, rites Monday

Maggie Helen Chacey, 83, 200 E. Fillmore, died Friday afternoon at the Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa where she had been a resident since August.

She was born Aug. 16, 1902, at Ollie, the daughter of Orville and Cora Fye Pickering. She grew up in the Ollie community, attended Prairie Home Grade School and graduated from Ollie High School.

On Sept. 19, 1923, she married Merle H. Chacey at the Methodist Parsonage in Hedrick. He died Nov. 12, 1965. She had been a resident of Fairfield since 1958 and did alterations for people in her home. Mrs. Chacey was a member of First United Methodist Church, Philathea Class and Keep Young Club.

Mrs. Chacey is survived by two daughters, Ruth Beck, Hedrick, and Elma McLeod, Belle Plaine; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Pickering, Keosauqua; four sisters, Daisy McIntire, Fairfield, Lois Syfert, Keosauqua, Blanche Woodard, Cassadaga, Fla., and Edith Hall, Sacramento, Calif.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery northeast of Martinsburg. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.
