James Fridley

James H. Fridley, 68, of 301 W. Fourth died at 10:10 p.m. Dec. 10, 1987, at the Knoxville Veterans Hospital in Knoxville.

He was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Milo to John William and Myrtle Farrington Fridley. He grew up in the Selma area and moved to Ottumwa in 1945. He had been an employee of John Morrell and Company for 27 years, and retired in 1981 from the Wapello County Courthouse. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had been a prisoner of war for 27 months. He married Dorothy Downing Feb. 16, 1945.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Sue Reisch of Eldon Route 1, Mary Hannah of Eldon, Ellen Davis of Ottumwa, Jonetta Parker of Glendale, Ariz., and Rebecca Parker of Fairfield; Three sons, James of Cedar Rapids, Terry of Fairfield and Randy of Omaha, Neb.; a stepson, Larry Downing of Ottumwa; 21 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jess of Kirkville and John of Arkansas, Kan. He was preceded in death by a son, John.

The service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. A.D. Pringle of Ottumwa Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be in Iowaville Cemetery near Selma.

Walter B. Schafer Post 775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in charge of military services at the grave.

Pallbearers will be Floyd and Cameron Loving, Larry Reisch Jr., George Nichols, Rod Clark and Charles Padget.
