Melvin Davis

FAIRFIELD - Melvin Erving Davis, 76, of 204 E. Broadway St. in Fairfield, died Sept. 3, 1987, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born July 19, 1911, in Colfax, Ill., to Marion and Myrtle Jones Davis. He last worked as a self-employed security guard. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He is survived by four sisters, Anna Loren Routson of Denver, Colo., Dorothy Waide of Byron, Ill., Margaret Shelhammer of Hemet, Calif., and Elizabeth Ellis of Rocky Ford, Colo.; one brother, Marion Davis of Sedalia, Colo.

Graveside rites will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Spencer Cemetery near Stockport, the Rev. Robert Butt officiating. Burial also will be in Spencer Cemetery.

Family visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.
