Regina Mary McCoy

Regina Mary McCoy, 42, died about 3:30 P.M. Thursday, May 2 at the home in the Vernon community southeast of Keosauqua. The riding lawn mower she was operating upset her.

The daughter of Edward A. and Mary Waznes Pelkus, she was born September 26, 1942 in Brooklyn New York. She graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School in Huntington Station, New York in 1960 and from the University of Rhode Island at Kingston in 1964, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She taught school in Rhode Island and later in Van Buren Community High School. On July 6, 1968 she married Hugh McCoy at East Northport, Long Island, New York. Surviving are her husband, a son, Paul Edward at home, her mother, Mrs. Mary Pelkus and her grandmother, Mrs. Constance Waznes of East Northport. Her father preceded her in death in 1980.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield, a member and Past President of Chapter I, PEO in Keosauqua and Chapter BY TTT in Bonaparte. She was also a member of the Delphian Study Club in Keosauqua and had been a recent volunteer worker at the Keosauqua Public Library.

The service was held Monday, May 6, 1985 at 11 A.M. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 402 N. Third St., Fairfield, with Rev. William Sullivan officiating. A Christian Wake service was held Sunday, May 5, 1985 at 7:30 P.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. Memorials have been established for the Van Buren County Ambulance Service and the Keosauqua Public Library Trust Fund. Burial was in Vale Cemetery north of Bonaparte.
