Richard Mairet

Former Keosauqua resident Richard E. Mairet, 59, of Des Moines died of cancer May 15, 1985, at Iowa Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Des Moines.

He was born Aug. 5, 1925, at Batavia to Eunice and Paul Mairet. He retired after 25 years as district sales manager for Skelly Oil Co. in Des Moines to become owner/manager of Hotel Manning in Keosauqua. He was instrumental in remodeling the hotel, which is listed on the National Historic Register. He was a veteran of World War II and a sportsman. He married Mary Lou Miller.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Paula Lovejoy of Norwalk and Becky Mairet-Davis of Iowa City; two sons, Steve of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Mike of Des Moines; six grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Padget of Keosauqua and Pat Anderson of Muscatine; and two brothers, Dan of Lees Summit, Mo., and Ron of Grandview.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eunice, and two brothers, Donald Arthur and Paul.

The service was held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 1985 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Des Moines.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Keosauqua Public Library.

The Rev. Cannon Robert W. Kem officiated. Patti Battani was the soloist and Neil Johnson the organist.
