Death of an Old Soldier

The death of James J.B. Sneath, familiarly know as "Major" occurred at his home in Bentosport Thursday evening, July 12, 1917. He was born at Nottingham, Eng.,Christmas Day, 1837. He was reared at that place, and sailed for America from Liverpool Feb. 11, 1853, landed at New Orleans, April 1, sailed up the Mississippi to Keokuk, and thence traveled overland to Selma, this county. He resided in that viscinity until 1896 when he moved to Bentonsport. Mr. Sneath was united in marriage to Miss Martha Odel in 1856. Mrs. Sneath died in March of last year. Thirteen children were born to this couple and all but one daughter,
