Raymond Carl

FAIRFIELD - Raymond M. Carl, 72, of Ainsworth Care Center and formerly of Fairfield died at 6:30 a.m. March 31, 1985 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born Feb. 9, 1913, in Jefferson County to Bert and Bessie Ford Carl. He was a retired self-employed house painter. He grew up in the Libertyville community and spent his entire life in Jefferson County. He married Pauline Schlarbaum on Jan. 11, 1941, at Lancaster, Mo. She died Aug. 24, 1968. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairfield and the American Legion, and was a veteran of the Army Air Corp in World War II.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Langan of Columbus Junction and Patrick Carl of Marietta, GA.; a daughter, Angela Hoff of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Nelson of Birmingham.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Fairfield, the Revs. James Battey and Gregory Berkey officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to the intensive care unit of Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
