Wilbur V. Strait, son of Israel and Sarah Plowman Strait, was born Feb. 14, 1905 in the Pittsburg community west of Keosauqua and died the evening of Sunday, March 3, 1985 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 80.

He spent his life farming and raising livestock in the same area where he was born, except for service in the United States Army during World War II. He was single.

Remaining are a brother, Bruce of Keosauqua, two sisters, Lena Crane of Keosauqua and Mae DeLong of Washington, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were four brothers, Roscoe, Garfield, Edward and Clarence, and two sisters, Blanche Burkett and Marguerite Austin.

Wilbur lived his life close to nature and loved the soil, his livestock and pet animals. As a youth he affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Funeral services are to be held Thursday, March 7, 1985 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Pittsburg Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Heart Fund.
