Mrs. Elizabeth Snider Ward, widow of the late William Dwight Ward, died at the family residence 345 East Main street, at shortly after 11 o'clock last night, after an illness of about one year, and after being bedfast for seventeen weeks.
weeks. [sic] She was 62 years, 5 mnths [sic] and 3 days of age.
Mrs. Ward was born near Carbondale on December 24, 1862. Her parents were Miles Jefferson Snider and Anna Bouchier Snider. Left motherless at the age of three years she was reared by her four grand parents and lived in that vicinity until the time of her marriage to William Dwight Ward of Du Quoin on June 3, 1880. After her marriage she took up her residence here and spent her life a resident of Du Qouin [sic].
Mr. Ward was engaged in the livery and stock business at that time and continued for some years, later going into the coal business. He was one of the promoters of the Majestic Coal Co. here. He departed this life January 11, 1908, after a long illness, during which he was nursed with patient and loving devotion by his wife, whose whole life has been marked by her gentleness to her family, neighbors and friends. A woman of fine character and sweet personality, she was highly esteemed by all who knew her and while the news of her death is not unexpected, after so long an illness, it comes nevertheless as a great sorrow to her relatives and to her many friends.
Mrs. Ward is survived by two children, a son, Snider B. Ward of St. Louis, and a daughter, Mrs. J. W. Croessmann, who lived with her. Also there are two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ward and Dwight Ward Croessmann, who will sadly miss their beloved grandmother; a sister and a brother; Miss Nellie Snider and Manning Snider, both of California, and a host of other relatives and friends. Miss Snider came east about two months ago called by the illness of Mrs. Ward, and has been at her bedside constantly since.
NOTE: Her death date of 27 May 1925 was calculated by her birthdate and death age. Also note there is a transcript of her husband's funeral notice elsewhere in the Van Buren County Forum
