JOSEPH HARVEY BARR
Joseph Harvey, son of Marion and Elizabeth Barr, was born at Circelville, Ill., March 6, 1868, and died at his home northeast of Cantril July 15, 1936, at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 4 days.
Mr. Barr grew to manhood in his native state and on Feb. 9, 1904, was united in marriage with Miss Carrie Dillen of Circelville, Ill. After four years he and his wife came to Iowa and purchased a farm north of Cantril. Mrs. Barr died May 23, 1925, and the husband lived alone on the farm where he passed away Wednesday, July 15. His lifeless body was discovered last Thursday evening by a boy passing his house and saw him lying dead upon his porch. It is supposed he suffered a heart attack which caused his death.
Mr. Barr was a good neighbor, honest and upright in his dealings, loved and respected by all who knew him. His sudden death casts a gloom over the community where he lived. One sister, Miss Minnie Barr of Pekin, Ill., one brother, Newton Barr of Kansas City, Mo., several nieces and nephews and a host of friends survive.
Funeral services were held in the Cantril M. E. church Saturday at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. F. M. James. Three songs were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Jud Hootman, with Mrs. Thomas Wellborn at the piano. Pall bearers were six of his neighbors. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery by the side of his wife.
