John E. Scott

VERNON - John E. Scott, 81-year-old life resident and prominent citizen of Vernon, died in Van Buren Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at 9:05 p.m. Thursday, July 19.

He was born to Frank and Ella Glascock Scott on Aug. 2, 1902. He married Letha Alexander Sept. 7, 1935, at Vernon.

Mr. Scott was a bookkeeper for the Bonaparte Sale Barn and Davidson Motor Co. of Keosauqua, and later for the Van Buren County Conservation Board. He was a leader in the Bentonsport Restoration and was a member of the Bentonsport United Methodist Church. He was a founder of Bentonsport Improvement Association and a member of Van Buren County Development Association. He was a member of the IOOF and the Van Buren County Historical Society.

Surviving: His wife; three sons, Deane, Dallas City, Ill., and Duane and Donald, both of Ft. Madison; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bentonsport United Methodist Church, the Rev. Louise Spears; Vernon Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Vernon Cemetery Association at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
