Bessie I. Muir

Bessie I. Muir, daughter of Charles E. and Fannie Boyer Brodeen, was born July 8, 1908 in Van Buren County near Troy and died on July 14, 1984 at her home in Keosauqua at the age of 76.

On Jan. 14, 1928 she married LaMar Muir at Milton. They lived in the Lebanon, Pittsburg and Keosauqua communities. Mr. Muir died in 1977. Her parents and an infant great granddaughter also preceded her in death.

Remaining are a son, Robert of Des Moines, two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Sharlene) Luke of Eldon and Mrs. Leonard (Jeanne) Johnson of Garrison, Minn., and a sister, Mrs. Boyd (Ruth) Smart of Irvine, Calif. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.

By profession, Bessie was a teacher, and she held to that career for nearly 30 years, teaching in the rural one room schools for most of that time.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 17, 1984 at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua. A memorial was established for the Heart Fund.
