Alex B. Livesay

Alex B. Livesay, son of Andrew Jackson and Bertha Lambert Livesay, was born March 4, 1917 at Blackwater, Virginia, and died Thursday, July 12, 1984 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 67.

In 1919, he moved with his family to Webster, Iowa where he grew to manhood. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1934 and attended the University of Iowa.

On november 7, 1936 he married Corda Hartman of Sigourney in Olathe, Kan. They farmed in Wapello, Keokuk, and Jefferson counties and moved to their present farm southwest of Keosauqua in 1950. Alex was also employed at Barker Equipment Co. in Keosauqua from 1957 until retiring in 1979.

Remaining are his wife, Corda, three sons, Gaylord of Mt. Sterling, George of Pensacola, Fla. and John of Coldwater, Mich., and three daughters, Bernadine Barker of Keosauqua, Brenda Hanshaw of Virginia Beach, Va., and Shirley McClure of Keosauqua. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister, Joyce Saunders of Keosauqua, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Marjorie, two brothers, Ralph and J.R. and two granddaughters, Valerie Livesay and Tammy Hanshaw.

Alex was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church which he served as Sunday School Superintendent for eight years. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fairfield, and was active in various community activities.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 15, 1984 at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Louise Spears officiating. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua. Memorials were established for the Van Buren County Red Cross and the Keosauqua Senior Citizens Center.
