Ethel Anderson

Ethel Anderson, daughter of Isaac Newton and Carrie Davis Spencer, was born June 17, 1892 in Van Buren County near Pittsburg and died on the evening of Wednesday, May 23, 1984, at Manor House Nursing Home in Sigourney, Iowa, at the age of 91.

On December 24, 1912, she married Howe Anderson at Keosauqua. They lived for a short while in Valley Junction, now known as West Des Moines and then moved back to the Anderson farm north of Keosauqua and remained there and operated the Anderson Park until moving into Keosauqua in 1938.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1959, her oldest son, Carl, in 1977. Her parents and two sisters. Mrs. Anderson moved to What Cheer in 1960. Remaining are a son, Fred Anderson and his wife Loretta of Oskaloosa, a daughter, Carribelle Witt and her husband Clarence of What Cheer, a sister, Bessie Dietzman and a brother, Elmer Spencer, both of Keosauqua, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephew, other relatives and friends.

Letter writing was her hobby as well as sewing and baking. She continued these pursuits past the age of 90 and made herself a dress after her ninetieth birthday.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, may 26, 1984 at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with rev. John DeBoef of What Cheer officiating. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua.
