LAWRENCE E. DAUGHRITY

Lawrence E. Daughrity, son of Edmond and Josephine Casady Daughrity, was born June18, 1906 in Cantril and departed this life early Thursday, April 19, 1984 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 77.

He grew up in Keosauqua and graduated from Keosauqua High School and Iowa State University and earned his Master's Degree at the University of Iowa. He taught in rural Van Buren County schools, in Keosauqua and was a teacher and administrator in Linnwood school in Scott County near Davenport from 1935 until the school was closed by consolidation in 1965. He then taught in the Blue Grass school until retiring in 1971 and returning to Keosauqua.

On June 9, 1934 he married Laura Landes. She survives. Also surviving is a brother, Harry of Fort Madison. A brother, Selman, and a sister, Kathryn Nedeau, preceded him in death.

Lawrence attended the Keosauqua Congregational Church and was a member of the Van Buren County and State Retired Teachers Associations, the Van Buren County Historical Society and the Keosauqua Rotary Club.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 21, 1984 at 11 a.m. in the Keosauqua Congregational Church with James Watson, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery at Keosauqua. Pedrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial was established for the church.
