FRANCIS "NATE" NELSON

Francis "Nate" Nelson, 66, of Bonaparte, died Friday, May 4, 1984 at 12:10 a.m. in the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua.

Born November 4, 1917 at York, Nebraska, he was the son of Nathan J. and Blanche Buttrick Nelson.

He married Kathryn Mosier on March 27, 1940 at Kahoka, Missouri.

A Bonaparte resident most of his life, he worked at the Bonaparte Mill until 1953. He was the former owner/operator of Nelson's 66 Service Station in Bonaparte.

He was a member of the Sargeant-Osweiler American Legion Posts 563 in Bonaparte and the Bonaparte Lions. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the Untied States Army Engineers, 361st Reg.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert of Morning Sun, Iowa; a brother, Elmer Nelson of Bonaparte; four sisters, Mrs. Walt "Ilene" Young of Great View, Washington, Mrs. Oscar "Agnes" Schiller, Fort Madison, Mrs. Bill (Cleta) Cocherell of Farmington, and Mrs. Paul
(Lucille) MountCastle of Sierra Vista, Arizona; and one granddaughter and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons in infancey and a granddaughter.

The funeral washeld Sunday, May 6, 1984, at 2 p.m. in the Bonaparte Presbyterian Church. Pastor James Rozendaal officiated. Burial was in the Bonaparte Cemetery. The Hofbauer Funeral Home, Farmington was in charge of arrangements. A memorial for the First Responders of Bonaparte was established.
