M. Clifford Meyer

Murray Clifford Meyer, son of John and Liddy Ray Meyer, was born Jan. 13, 1884 at Leighton, Iowa and died Sunday, Sept. 11, 1983 at Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 99.

He married Emma Cooper who died in the influenza epidemic following World War I. He later married Carrie Walter who also preceded him in death.

Remaining are a daughter, Opal Olsen of Spencer, two sons, Sherman of Parker, two sons, Sherman of Parker, Arizona and Walter of Keosauqua, 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Arnold, and a sister, Berth, both of California, other relatives and friends. Two daughters, Orpha and Juanita and a son, Harold, preceded him in death.

Mr. Meyer was the oldest of a family of eight children. When he was young the family moved to Oklahoma and he had also lived in South Dakota. Most of his adult life was spent farming in Van Buren County, Iowa, primarily in the Bentonsport-Bonaparte, area.

He had been a member of the Bonaparte Odd Fellows Lodge and Van Buen County Farm Bureau.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, 1983 at 10 a.m. in the Bonaparte United Church, with Rev. James Rozendaal officiating. Interment will be in the Bentonsport Cemetery. Memorials to the Bonaparte United Church may be left at the funeral home.
