Clarence W. Wiley

Clarence W. Wiley, son of George W. and Mary Catherine Miller Wiley, was born Nov. 23, 1894 in Fairfield and died Friday, May 20, 1983, on his farm near Douds at the age of 88. He had lived on the same farm for 79 years, and remained actively engaged in farm work throughout his life. He died in his pasture attending to his sheep and had done some field work earlier in the day.

On Nov. 24, 1914 he married Ruth Humphrey at her parents home near Lebanon. She died in 1971. Two brothers, Emmett and Harold, also preceded him in death.

Remaining are three daughters, Mary Catherine Kann and her husband Logan and Racehl Kemp and her husband Eugene, all of Fairfield, Jo Ann Wiley, who lived with her father and helped him maintain the family home.

Also surviving are two sisters, Hazel Harward of Sigourney Manor Home in Sigourney and Evelyn Parks of Phoenix, Ariz., five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four step -great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Clarence was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a fifty-year member of Starlight Lodge No. 350, Knight of Pythias and a member of the Douds Community Club. He was a director of the Leando Cemetery Association, and maintained a keen interest in community affairs throughout his long and active lif.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 23, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Rev. Gerald Caughron and Dr. Chris Daniel officiating. Interment was in Leando Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Cemetery or Van Buren County Memorial Hospital.
