Gladys M. Channel

Gladys M. Channel, daughter of Charles and Anna Creek Laughlin, was born May 15, 1902 northeast of Douds and died Sunday, July 24, 1983 at Park View Care Center in Fairfield at the age of 81.

She lived on the family farm and cared for her father during his elder years.

On January 26, 1950, she married Leo H. Channel in Ottumwa. They farmed north of Douds until moving to Birmingham in 1956.

Gladys had worked as a nurse's aide at the McCleary and Nelson Nursing Homes in Fairfield, and cared for elderly people in their homes in Birmingham.

Surviving are her husband, Leo, a sister, Weltha Caughell of Packwood, other relatives and friends. Her parents and a brother, Raymond, preceded her in death.

She attended the Birmingham Free Methodist Church, and will be remembered for her life of service to others, particularly the elderly and infirm.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 26, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery north of Douds.
