THELMA ABERNETHY

Thelma Mae Webber Abernethy, daughter of Hezekiah and Hattie Craig Webber, was born Sept. 22, 1905, Protection, Kansas. She died Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 1983 at her home in Milton, at the age of 78. Thelma married Otto Elmer Abernethy, July 26, 1922. He preceded her in death some 22 years.

Four children were born into the Abernethy household. The oldest, Juanita Darlene Price, died in 1981. The remaining family members are: son Richard Burl and wife Mary, Milton; son Billy Joe and wife Marian, St. Joseph, Mo.; and daughter June Charlene Helsel, and husband, Harold, Cantril; and a brother, Richard Webber, and wife Frances. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Thelma Abernethy spent her married years in Scotland County, Mo. She was a member of the Prairie View Methodist Church, and for many years was a Sunday School teacher; she was president of the Ladies Aid. For several years she was a treasurer of the South Upton School District. Following her husband's death in 1961, Thelma worked as a nurses aid at the hospital in Burlington. She spent her remaining years in Milton where she was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was an active participant in the United Methodist Church. She was an active participant in the United Methodist Women and Circle. She was also a member of the Blackaby Club and the Cantril Order of the Eastern Star.

Services were heldon Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Methodist Church in Milton at 2:30 p.m.
