Willa B. Murdock

Willa B. Murdock, daughter of Stephan and Bertha Lazenby Fellows, was born December 5, 1904 at Keosauqua and departed this life Friday, January 14, 1983 at English Valley Nursing Home in North English at the age of 78.

On December 11, 1926 she married Harry at Ottumwa. He died in 1956. A son, Charles, three sisters, a brother, and two grandchildren also preceded her in death.

Remaining to cherish her memory are two daughters, Dorothy Sellers of Ottumwa and Donna Faas of North English and a son, James, of El Paso, Texas. Also surviving are six grandchildren, a great grandson, a brother, Harold Fellows of Keosauqua, other relatives and friends.

Willa was a member of the Keosauqua High School debate team which won third place in the state of Iowa in 1923. She taught in rural schools, and she and her husband lived their married life on the family farm between Douds and Keosauqua. Later she was companion and housekeeper for Mrs. Katie Cramlet in the home north of Douds, and had lived in North English the past several years.

She was a member of the North English Christian Church and John Hyson Reneker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary at Douds.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Rev. Dave Barnes of her church officiating. Burial was in Pittsburg Cemetery. A memorial was established and gifts may be left at the funeral home.
