Alvastine Canaday

Wilma Canaday, daughter of Walter and Leatha Cole Scotton, was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Davis County, and died Monday, Feb. 7, 1983 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 62. She first married Harold King. Later she married Ralph Canaday, who preceded her in death.

Remaining are five daughters, Nancy Franklin, Keosauqua; Judi McCarty, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sue Fischer, Fairfield; Donna Wilcoxen, Albia; and Marcia Kelly, Parkville, Mo.; and four sons, Richard King, Kansas City, Kan.; William Canaday, Chicago, Ill.; Robert and Michael Canaday, both of Keosauqua. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother Paul Scotton of Farmington and eight sisters, Tilla Long, Lois Starnes, Marty Barker, and Mary Bell, all of Keosauqua; Norma Ward, Farmington; Verna Robinson, Kansas City, Kan.; Hope Anderson, Birmingham; and Doris Snell, Wenden, Ariz., other relatives and friends.

She was a member of the Beer-Barker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary and the Van Buren County Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 11, 1983 at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with Rev. Louise Knupp officiating. Interment was in Pittsburg Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Kidney Foundation.
