ETHEL HARLAN

Ethel Harlan, 97, of Stockport, died Tuesday, February 22, 1983, at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital. She had been in the hospital for two days. She was born August 4, 1885, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Aaron and Laura Harlan Helterbran. She was united in marriage to Jay S. Harlan on December 24, 1908, in Hillsboro. He died November 26, 1981.

She is survived by a son and daughter, Dr. C.E. Harlan of Ava, Missouri, and Ernid Faber, Des Moines, Six grandchildren, 13 great-granchildren and a sister and two brothers, Iva Longman of Lacon, Illinois, Edward Helterbran of Montana, and Keith Helterbran of Oxford, Iowa.

She had lived most of her life in Van Buren County and was a rural school teacher in Van Buren County Area country schools. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Funeral services were February 24, at the Behner Funeral Home with Lothar Lengtat officiating. Burial was in the Spencer Cemetery, Stockport, Iowa.
