VIRGIL L. GORDON

Virgil L. Gordon, son of Charles and Ida Baldwin Gordon was born April 28, 1915 in Henderson County, Illinois, and departed this life Wednesday, September 15, 1982 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 67.

On April 10, 1937, he married Mildred Johnson at Oquawka, Illinois. They farmed in Mercer and Henderson counties, Illinois until moving to their present farm home north of Bonaparte, in 1959.

Surviving are his widow, Mildred; a son, Paul and his wife Joyce of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Joan Gittings and her husband John of Green City, Missouri; and six grandchildren, Paul and Kelly Gordon and Shari, Darrell, Brian and Jeffrey Gittings. Also surviving are six brothers, Harley, Baraboo, Wisconsin, William, East Moline, Illinois, Donald, Freeport, Illinois, Robert, Eufaula, Oklahoma, Chester, Aledo, Illinois and Leonard, Joliet, Illinois; two sisters, Ruby Edlund, Bloomington, Minnesota and Merylin Ferson, Springfield, Illinois; other relatives and friends. A son, Gene, died in 1968.

Virgil had served on the Van Buren County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Committee, the Big Three Farm Bureau Service Co. board of directors and was a past president of the Van Buren Farm Bureau.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 18, at 1 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Kenneth Harden of the Sharon Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, Illinois. A memorial was established for the Sharon Church.
