Ethel Carnahan

Ethel Carnahan, daughter of Charles and Edith Armstrong Eahart, was born July 30, 1901 in South Dakota and departed this life Sunday, July 4, 1982 at Ottumwa Hospital at the age of 80.

On May 23, 1920 she married George Carnahan in Bonaparte, where they lived until moving to Keosauqua in 1929. George died in 1973. A brother, Cecil Eahart also preceded her in death.

Remaining to cherish her memory are two daughters, Elsie Mae Huff of Keosauqua, and Cecile Abraham of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister, Leta Easter, age 94, of Donnellson, three nieces, a nephew, other relatives and many friends.

Ethel had served many years as organist in the Keosauqua Congregational Church. She al used her musical talent for the benefit of others by playing the organ and piano frequently at the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center; as organist of Lynds Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; and providing music for many funerals, weddings and other community junctions. She was a member of Beer-Barker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary, and was an avid bowler, finishing the league season in May of this year with a score of 182 in her final game.

A devoted mother and grandmother, her contributions to the lives and happiness of many people, both of family and friends, will live on in the memory of the community as a fitting memorial to her life of service.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 6, 1982, at 1:30 P.M. at the Keosauqua Congregational Church, with Reverends John and Mary Nolin officiating. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home. A memorial was established for the Keosauqua Congregational Church.
