Local Woman Dies At Home
Mrs. J. R. Gilchrist, 73, a resident of this city for the past 20 years, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Sunday at her home, 61-1/2 South Court street. She suffered at heart attack on November 7, 1946, and a stroke 10 weeks ago from which she never recovered.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church with Dr. L. H. Scheerer in charge. Burial will be in Miller Chapel cemetery near Birmingham. The body will be taken to the church from the Hoskins funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Ludema Patrick Gilchrist was born November 20, 1873, at Nashville, Missouri, the daughter of the late William H. and Caroline Williams Patrick. She was married July 3, 1890, at Corvallis, Missouri, to J. R. Gilchrist. The wedding took place in the bride's home.
The couple moved to Fairfield 20 years ago from Keosauqua. Mr. Gilchrist preceded his wife in death 15 years ago. She was a member of the Methodist church; O.E.S. No. 27, Lynd chapter of Keosauqua and the White Shrine.
Mrs. Gilchrist is survived bya daughter, Mrs. R. H. Stout, and a son Wayne, both of Fairfield; seven grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Will Wright, Central Point, Oregon. Three children preceded her in death: John Orr, Bonaparte; Gerald Perry, Keosauqua, and James R. at the age of nine.
