ROBERT E. LEE CHAPMAN

[handwritten: 1937]

Robert E. Lee Chapman was born on a farm near Bonaparte May 7, 1866. He was the son of William P. and Mary Ann Humphryes Chapman, whose parents were pioneers in this locality.

Robert grew to manhood near Bonaparte, and with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas and Missouri, he has lived his entire life in this community. He was united in marriage Feb. 21, 1906, with Mrs. Martha Douglas. To this union were born two children, Helen and Lee, both of Bonaprte [sic]. A number of years ago they moved to town, but Mr. Chapman continued his work on the farm until he was compelled by poor health to quit. He has been seriously ill for several months, and the end came Friday, June 25, 1937. His age was 71 years, 1 month and 18 days.

He was one of seven children, all but two of whom, Alice Jones of Alva, Okla., and Will A. of Bonaparte, preceded him in death. Besides his brother and sister he leaves to mourn, his wife, and son and daughter and a step-son, Lester Douglas and wife, and their daughter, Joe Anna, of Warrensburg, Mo.

Mr. Chapman has for a number of years been a member of the Woodman Lodge. He found his greatest pleasure in his home and family and doing faithfully whatever he had to do. He was always a kind friend and neighbor, and will be missed by those who knew him best.

Rev. Mitchell of West Point has charge of the funeral service Sunday [unreadable] in the Presbyterian church, with interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
