RICHARD S. FERREL

Frank and Golde Laughlin Ferrel, was born July 6, 1924, in Van Buren County and departed this life Tuesday, March 17, 1981, at Ridgecrest Nursing Center in Davenport, at the age of 56.

He grew up in Douds community and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On July 4, 1948, he married Rose McCracken in Keosauqua. They had made their home for many years in Davenport. He was a foreman at J.I. Case Co. in Bettendorf, a member of Davenport Moose Lodge No. 28, and Dixon American Legion Post No. 353.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his widow, Rose, a son, Michael, his mother, Golde Ferrel, and two brothers, Frank LeRoy and Darrell, allof Birmingham, a sister, Betty Gonterman of Keosauqua, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 21, 1981 at 2:00 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Rev. John Sattler of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Keosauqua officiating. Nephews Frank Ferrel, Jr., Terry Gonterman, Jim Jester, Charles Lathrop, Dick Warren, and Dale McCracken served as pallbearers. Interment was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, north of Douds, with military rites by John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion, Douds. A memorial was established for cancer research.
