HAZEL C. HUSTEAD

Hazel C. Hustead, daughter of Des Moines and Ella Creath Norris, was born February 19, 1888 at Cantril and departed this life Friday, December 25, 1981 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 93.

On September 15, 1909, she married Guy L. Hustead at her parents home near Cantril. They farmed near Cantril and operated a grocery store and later a hardware store in town. Mr. Hustead died in 1968. A daughter, Imogene Sanger and a sister, Vetus Hanna also preceded her in death.

Remaining to cherish her memory are a daughter, Louellajane Smith and her husband H. Donald Smith of Cantril; two granddaughters, Sherry Kleveter and her husband, David of Omaha, Nebraska and Linda Sharp and her husband, Jack, of Cantril, a grandson, Richard Sanger of Glendoro, Calif.; eight great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Hustead lived her entire life in the Cantril community until entering Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua in 1978. She was a life-long member of the Cantril Christian Church and a fifty-year member of Cantril Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and had been active in various other community organizations over the years.

She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, a good citizen and friend.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 28, 1981 at 11 A.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Entombment was in the family mausoleum in Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril. A memorial was established for her chuch.
