OBITUARY

Manson L. Bennett was born in Crawford county, Penn., Oct. 17, 1862, and died at Aspen Junction, Col., October 5, 1895, aged 32 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Our citizens were greatly shocked by the dispatch announcing the death of Manson. But a few weeks previous he left here a robust man, going to Springfield, Mo., for a short visit with his wife's parents Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Shaw. While there one of his children was taken sick with malarial fever, and he assisted in nursing and caring for it until its recovery. His entire system became impregnated with the germs of the same disease. Although feeling poorly himself and family started for Aspen Junction to visit his brother Otto and look for a location. In a few days he was taken down and physicians were summoned. They succeeded in getting the fever under control when stomach trouble developed, which baffled their skill and caused his death. He had been subject to attacks of the latter disease for several years, but never in so virulent form, and although of rugged constitution he could not get relief, and death resulted in a few hours.

During the winter of 1884 he was converted and united with the M. E. church, of which he remained a consistent member until death.

Nov. ( )th, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Shaw, who with two children are left to mourn the death of a kind and loving husband and father. He also leaves a father and mother Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Bennett, living north of town, a sister Mrs. Alta Crum living near Fairfield, and two brothers, Almer, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Otto of Aspen Junction, Col., all of whom were present at the funeral, to mourn his death.

His remains were brought to this place, arriving the 9th, for burial. The funeral was held from the M. E. church Wednesday at 2 p. m., Rev. Fraker, his pastor, conducting the services in the presence of a large congregation of sorrowing relatives and and [sic] friends.
