Bessie Muir

Bessie Irene Muir, 76, died Saturday at her home in Keosauqua.

She was born July 8, 1908 in Van Buren County near Troy to Charles E. and Fannie Boyer Brodeen. She was a teacher for nearly 30 years, teaching in rural schools for most of that time.

On Jan. 14, 1928, she married LaMar Muir at Milton. They lived in the Lebanon, Pittsburg and Keosauqua communities. He died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Robert of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Sharlene Luke of Eldon and Mrs. Jeanne Johnson of Garrison, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Smart of Irvine, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held today at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, conducted by the Rev. Harold Harryman. Burial was in the Fellows Cemetery at Keosauqua.

A memorial has been established to the Heart Fund.
